There will be two Ecoboost models, a plug-in all electric model, the Energi, plus a standard non-plug-in hybrid model as well. The Ecoboost models will come in either a 1.6-liter, 179 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque engine or a 2.0-liter expected to make 237 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder model comes in either a six-speed automatic or a manual transmission dependent up on the model. These internal-combustion models will be the first 2013 Fusions to hit the market with the hybrid and Energi models joining later in 2012.
The 2013 Fusion also comes in a plug-in electric model that will allow the Fusion to compete with other brand cars such as the Volt and the Nisson Leaf. The plug-in model, the Energi, differs from the basic hybrid and can travel under all-electric power. Its lithium-ion batteries create the power behind it. There is also a gas engine that extends the Fusion Energi's range up to 500 miles beyond where the charged battery can take it. The conventional hybrid has improved mileage of up to 47/44 mpg in the city and on the highway.
