Gear up for the Upcoming Winter Snows!

The holiday season came and went with hardly a drop of snow, but as Midwesterners, we know that won't hold up in the upcoming winter months. Now is the time to prepare for the winter weather with some new snow tires! Bob Rohrman Schaumburg Ford is here to answer any questions you may have about the importance of snow tires. Keep reading to learn more!

Is there really a noticeable difference between all-season tires and snow tires?

Yes! Different tires work best in different seasons. All season tires are exactly what they sound like: tires built to withstand all the seasons. All season tires are good tires, but do not allow for maximum performance in any one season. They're built out of a harder material that does not perform as well in winter months. This is where snow tires come into play: they're built out of softer materials that can handle the cold winter temperatures.

What makes snow tires different from all-season tires?

Snow tires are made with a deeper tire thread that allows the tires to dig down into the snowy road and grasp onto the snow. This grip is critical in that it allows you, as the driver to stop, start and steer much more safely. Winter tires are built out of a softer and more flexible rubber that allows them maximum performance in the colder winter months.

Can I leave my snow tires on all year round?

The answer here is sure, but you really should not. Just like snow tires are made to get maximum performance during the cold winter months, there are tires built with more traction for the warm rainy months of summer.

Come on down to your local Schaumburg Ford dealers and let the Bob Rohrman team answer any other questions you may have about preparing your tires and your vehicles for upcoming winter storms!
